If you would like to direct a domain name that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, the best way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is redirected to. That way, if you use a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the Internet site which you have created, but it will also be displayed in the browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all of the visitors from various subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because such a record set up for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Website Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our Linux shared website hosting packages is extremely easy. Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in only a few easy steps. You will find a video tutorial within the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you many options - if you set up a company site on our end, for example, the staff can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to set up a website through a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you'll be able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain address, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You are going to be able to create, change and delete CNAME records easily with any one of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are managed using the custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for any domain or subdomain that you have added in your account. To create a new record, you need to choose the hostname that will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type in where it is going to be forwarded to, pick the record type, which will be CNAME in this case, and you are going to be all set. Even when you have never used a web hosting service before, our CP is extremely intuitive to use, so you will not have any troubles. We also have a short video and a detailed help article on how to set up a CNAME record, both of which are located in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you can easily use a domain address hosted on our innovative cloud hosting platform for a site created someplace else, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, and more.
